The World's Most Printed 3D Model, 3DBenchy, Is Now Public Domain
Hackaday reports: Great news for fans of uniquely shaped boats often dubbed as benches! The current copyright holder, NTI Group, has officially released 3DBenchy into the public domain. This announcement comes shortly after Prusa's Printables website began removing all derivative models to comply with a 'no derivatives' license. NTI clarified that this removal was not requested by them but was based on a third-party report that neither NTI nor the original creator of the model, Daniel Norée, was aware of. Acknowledging its significance to the community, 3DBenchy is now available for free download and modification. NTI collaborated with both Norée and former Creative Tools CEO Paulo Kiefe to transition 3DBenchy and its associated website into the public domain.
